Investor ITAS

#E28A

If you would like to start your own business or invest in new opportunities in Indonesia, an Investor ITAS provides a way for you to do that. It is available to those who are shareholders, Directors or Commissioners in an Indonesian company (known as a PT PMA).

Regular process 4 weeks.

Express process 6-7 working days.

In order to be eligible, you can either invest in a PT, a limited liability company, which already exists or you can establish your own. If you wish to learn more about the process of incorporating a PT PMA, please see our page Company Set Up (PT PMA) or reach out to us for more information.

Following the Ministry of Law and Human Rights latest visa classification regulations, 2 years Investor ITAS is now issued under the index E28A. You may have found in your research that it is known as Investor ITAS C313 or C314, however, these indexes have now been renamed to E28A in accordance with the new regulations stipulated in October 2023.

There are plenty of benefits that come with an Investor ITAS, including the ability to travel freely in and out of Indonesia, open your own bank account, legally invest in the country and qualify for dividends with a favorable tax rate on your investment. Furthermore, your spouse and any children you have who are under the age of 17 can join you in Indonesia, and after 4 years of having an Investors ITAS in the same PT PMA, you will be eligible to apply for a KITAP which grants you 5 years residency.

  • Limited Stay Permits, commonly known as KITAS/ITAS, is a broad term that encompasses several different types of permits which allow holders to live in Indonesia. They are designed for foreigners engaged in activities within Indonesia, which could include being married to an Indonesian national, working for an Indonesian company or owning a business in Indonesia. The duration of KITAS varies depending on the purpose it is issued for, and can be either 6 months, 1 year or 2 years.

KITAS stands for Kartu Ijin Tinggal Terbatas, which means Limited Stay Permit Card, although nowadays the Indonesian government no longer issues physical KITAS cards. To avoid confusion, it is now called a Limited Stay Permit (ITAS), although many people who don’t work in the visa industry still call it a KITAS.

There are many benefits to having a KITAS, ranging from freely traveling in and out of the country, the ability to open a bank account, being able to legally work in Indonesia (for some ITAS only), having a stable visa and the chance of obtaining a tax residency in Indonesia, as well as getting discounts in some local businesses and attractions.

You may have also heard the term KITAP, which stands for Kartu Izin Tinggal Tetap or in English, a Permanent Stay Permit Card. A KITAP is a 5-year visa, which you can apply for only if you have had the same type of KITAS with the same sponsoring entity for an extended period of time. Your sponsoring entity must remain the same in order for you to qualify for KITAP. For example, if your Investor KITAS is sponsored by different companies over a period of 4 years, you wouldn’t be eligible to apply for KITAP.

On October the 23rd 2023, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights announced a new classification system for visa names which is being rolled out gradually. This means that some of the names or classification numbers of visas are changing. We just wanted you to keep this in mind in case you see different names or numbers for ITAS when doing your research.

If you are interested in obtaining an ITAS, please explore the options here or feel free to reach out to us so that we can advise you. The process may seem a little complicated, but our aim is to make things as simple and straightforward as possible.

  • While holding an Investor ITAS will provide you with plenty of new opportunities, it is important to mention that it is not a work permit and doesn’t allow you to work in Indonesia. Only Directors of PT PMAs can work within their companies, and they should only do tasks related to their role, such as attending meetings with the bank, notaries, accountants and signing contracts.

In order to comply with the Indonesian government’s regulations, it is important that you don’t engage in daily tasks related to your business, as these should be delegated to local employees. If you have any questions about what you can and can’t do with an Investors ITAS, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team so that we can advise you.

Getting Your Investors ITAS

We currently offer two fares for the application process, regular or express processing. The process can be broken down into two phases.

  • After your documents are submitted to our team, we will apply for your visa. It will take anywhere from 3 working days to 10 working days to be issued, depending which processing time you have chosen. Once the visa is issued, you will be sent the e-ITAS in PDF format by our team and will simply need to show it on arrival in Indonesia in the dedicated Immigration control queue for e-ITAS holders.

Please note that once the e-ITAS has been issued, you have 90 days to fly with it before it expires, so bear this in mind when planning your trip in Indonesia and applying for your visa.

    - Regular processing time for e-ITAS: 6-10 working days

    - Express processing time for e-ITAS: 3-5 working days

  • After arriving in Indonesia using the e-ITAS, you will need to visit the local Immigration office within the first 30 days for passport stamping and to do biometrics. Once this step is finalized, your ITAS will be valid for 2 years from the date of arrival to Indonesia.

Please consider the processing times listed below in your travel plans, as your passport will need to stay in Immigration for the entire ITAS finalization process.

    - Regular ITAS finalization time: 4 weeks

    - Express ITAS finalization: 6-7 working days
