Working ITAS

#E23-E26

A Working ITAS is required to legally work for an Indonesian company. This is a permit that allows foreigners to live and work in Indonesia for a one year period.

Estimated processing time - 6 weeks.

This means you can work directly doing daily tasks within the company in the role you are hired for. However, it is important to note that you can’t apply for one by yourself, as you will need to be sponsored by an Indonesian company to get a Working ITAS.

  • Following the Ministry of Law and Human Rights latest visa classification regulations, Working ITAS is now issued under the new indexes ranging from E23-E26, depending on the nature of the working role. You may have found in your research that the Working ITAS index is C312, however, this classification number has now been renamed to E23-E26 in accordance with the new regulations stipulated in October 2023.

  • When it comes to foreigners working in Indonesia, the government is very strict. It is essential to follow the laws and make sure you only work with a permit because many foreigners have faced hefty fines or deportation for not doing so. We highly recommend respecting the rules and laws to ensure you have peace of mind during your time in Indonesia.

Working ITAS permits have some limitations, meaning holders can only work for the company that hired them and do the job specified as their occupation on the ITAS. For example, if your Working ITAS says ‘chef,’ you should only work as a chef in the restaurant that employed you. This means you cannot occasionally work in other roles or on a freelance basis. Usually, your place of work will be registered as the company that hired you, but if you temporarily need to work in a different location on behalf of your employer, you can arrange to get a special permission letter.
